British guitarist Jason Carter has been playing guitar since the age of 9. He is predominantly self-taught but has attended master classes with guitarists John Williams and Paco Peña at the Royal Academy of Music.
His style is an eclectic mix of Flamenco, Jazz and Classical Guitar, and this has been demonstrated through the wide range of CDs that Jason has produced for Sony, EMI, ASV and ARC Music. From original solo guitar compositions, to Indian/Arabic Fusion, Classical Chamber Music, Jazz arrangements and Techno/Dance Music with DJs. Jason has also appeared alongside Larry Coryell, Trilok Gurtu and Hapriprasad Chaurasia on the ARC Music Compilation 'Crossing Borders' and recorded with artists such as Nick Beggs, Phil Keaggy, Máire Brennan and Hossam Ramzy.
Jason performs internationally, mainly as a solo guitarist, but also collaborates with artists from Ireland, China, India, Pakistan, Iraq, Egypt, Lapland and Africa. He has always maintained strong artistic links with the Middle East and was the co-founder of the 'Bahrain International Guitar Festival'. In 2001 Jason received a Music Award from the Crown Prince of Bahrain alongside 4 Arabic Artists, and more recently went to Pakistan to perform for President Musharaff. In 2000 Jason also performed the famous Guitar 'Concerto de Aranjuez' (Joaquin Rodrigo) with Orchestras in Finland, Ireland and the UK, and will also perform this work in 2004 with the Novosibirsk Philharmonic Orchestra. He has also performed with artists such as Nigel Kennedy, Antonio Forcione, Gordon Giltrap, Dominic Miller and Babik Reinhardt. In 2004 Jason will perform with the Hong Kong Chinese Orchestra in Hong Kong, a specially commissioned piece for Guitar and Traditional Chinese Instrument-Orchestra.
Jason is currently working on a project in Helsinki, bringing together elements of Flamenco, Rap, Opera, Jazz, Indian, Arabic and Hip-Hop, involving mainly Finnish Musicians. Forsti Filmi are making a documentary about this project in Finland. |
